From March 12th to 15th, 2024, Grade 11 students from the Academic Track of Business and Management (ABM) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) streams ventured into a world of educational exploration that promised to shape their academic futures.
Led by their esteemed adviser, Ms. Realyn Atabay, and supported by School Principal Ms. Nanette Heredero, School Affairs Officer Ms. Cecilia Ong, Registrar Ms. Irene Caspillan, and Guidance Personnel for High School Ms. KC Parcon, these young scholars delved into a world of learning beyond the confines of their classrooms.
Their itinerary was meticulously crafted to provide a holistic learning experience, offering a blend of historical exploration, civic engagement, and glimpses into their future academic endeavors. The journey commenced with a visit to the iconic Malacañang Palace Heritage, where students immersed themselves in the rich tapestry of Philippine history, tracing the footsteps of past leaders and gaining insights into the country’s governance.
From there, the students set their sights on the hallowed halls of the Office of the Senate, where they were granted a rare opportunity to witness democracy in action. Engaging with senators and witnessing legislative proceedings firsthand, they gained a deeper appreciation for the mechanisms driving national governance and the power of civic participation.
But the tour didn’t stop there, it also embraced the boundless opportunities offered by Manila’s renowned educational institutions. From the venerable halls of the University of Santo Tomas to the innovative campuses of Ateneo De Manila University, from the academic excellence of the University of the Philippines to the technological prowess of MAPUA University and the esteemed corridors of De La Salle University, the students were exposed to a spectrum of academic offerings that sparked their imaginations and fueled their aspirations. These visits not only provided a glimpse into the academic rigors of higher education but also laid the foundation for their future academic pursuits.
Moreover, the tour provided a unique chance for the students to interact with esteemed members of the legislative branch. In the Office of the Congress, they had the privilege of meeting congresswomen and congressmen, engaging in insightful discussions and gaining perspectives on the intricacies of policymaking and public service.
For Ms. KC, the educational tour represented more than just a field trip; it was a transformative experience that broadened the horizons of her students and instilled in them a sense of purpose and civic responsibility. “Beyond the academic curriculum, these experiences are essential in shaping well-rounded individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also socially aware and engaged citizens,” she remarked.
