History & Milestone

Since early 1930’s , The Chinese United Evangelical Church which was later renamed as United Evangelical Church (UECP) has been establishing schools for the dual purpose of instructing the children of the believers and reaching out to non-believers not only in its vicinity but also of those in the provinces.

Sometime in 1980, its Mission Board commissioned Ms. Aning Chua, a missionary-teacher, to start a Sunday School ministry in Palawan. She started with five to ten children attending regularly. All the lessons were conducted in Chinese once a week. Later on, by the request of the parents, meetings were then held three times a week.

The parents were encouraged that their children were learning the Chinese language so the attendance kept on growing until it reached thirty. Due to the increasing number of pupils, the classes were temporarily transferred to the Methodist Church. Finally, the parents  requested to have formal Chinese Class from Monday to Friday, with a collection of minimal fees.

Funds for school building were then raised by both UECP and the Chinese community of Puerto Princesa City. Soon after, with the able assistance of Mr. Felix T. Lao, who processed all the documents required in behalf of the UECP Board of Trustees, the construction of the first PHCS building on February 2, 1982. The construction was completed on May 28, 1982 and was dedicated on May 30 of the same year.

Through God’s faithfulness and the benevolent support of the UECP Board of Trustees, and the dedicated efforts of Ms. Aning Chua and the pioneering members of faculty and staff, the number of pupils kept increasing every year. In March 1984, UECO-Men’s Fellowship donated a substantial amount for additional classrooms. After two years, more classrooms were constructed.

The main purpose of PHCS is to spread the Gospel and to share the gift of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. The second is purpose is to meet the needs of the community by inculcating Christian values and to provide English and Chinese basic quality education.

Since the start of the school in 1980 up to the present, problems and difficulties are still encountered. In spite of the challenges, the school continues to hold on to God’s promises, for His faithfulness, for proving that His grace is always sufficient throughout these years of existence.
