Palawan Hope Christian School (PHCS) celebrated Chinese New Year in vibrant style with a dazzling dance competition held at Robinsons Mall Palawan last Friday, February 09, 2024.
Chinese Department Coordinator, Ms. Helen A. Trajano, set the tone of festivities with her opening remarks delivered in Mandarin, she expressed joy at celebrating the Chinese New Year and acknowledged the blessings of God’s faithfulness.
The event which showcased the diverse talents of the pupils and students featured performances from various grade levels, lit up the stage with their stunning routines and astounding costumes battling for the top.
Divided into four levels, the competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from learners across different age groups. In first level, Grades 1 to 3 pupils showcased their skills, with Grade 3 Loyalty clinching the first place, followed by Grade 2 Kindness and 2 Meekness securing the second and third place respectively.
Moving on to level two, which comprised grades 4 to 6 pupils, Grade 6 Confidence wowed the judges and claimed the top spot, followed by Grade 6 Integrity and Grade 5 Peace in second and third place.
For level three, featuring grades 7 to 9 students, Grade 9 Humility emerge victorious, with Grade 8 Diligence and Grade 7 Hope securing the second and third positions.
In the final level, grades 10 to 12 students highlighted their exceptional talents, with Grade 12 Wisdom STEM stealing the show and bag the first place. Grade 10 Courage and Grade 11 ABM Mixed secured the second and third place.
Beyond competitive spirit, the event was a celebration of cultural exchange and artistic expression, that even the preschoolers had the chance to show a spectacle move in dancing. Moreover, the audience treated to a mesmerizing musical performance by Stevie Williams, a grade 12 student, who flaunt his skills on the cello, leaving spectators in awe.
To ensure a fair and professional judging process, PHCS invited a distinguished panel of experts: Mr. Francis G. Machado, Ms. Irene O. Caspillan, Ms. Noelyn D.Concepcion, and Ms. Lilibeth M. Dalanon, who had the challenging task of selecting the winners from the pool and talented participants.
As a testament to their excellence, the grade levels that won first place in each category will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at NCCC Mall the following day, further extending the Chinese New Year.
This exciting competition wasn’t the only way celebrated Chinese New Year. Prior to the dance event, selected participants had the chance to vitrine their talents at the opening ceremony held at Chinatown on February 5th.
The school’s commitment to cultural understanding was further emphasized by the confident emcee duo who delivered a stellar performance, as Grade 10 Valor’s Hanz Bryle L. Wan impressively spoke Mandarin, while Grade 12 Wisdom STEM’s Jodie P. Peregrino eloquently translated it into English, ensuring that everyone could partake in the festivities.
The celebration not only highlighted the cultural diversity within the school but also underscored the remarkable talents nurtured by Palawan Hope Christian School, leaving a lasting impression on all those in attendance.
